Sussex Online is an initiative by local and
national partners to promote and support projects
in East and West Sussex which aim to use new media
like the Internet for community benefit.
The most recent Sussex Online events were
meetings with US community networker Terry
Grundwald July 24 - 26 1998, Details
here. including Terry's
presentation
The first Sussex Online
event was held at Brighton University on
Wednesday May 20 1998 to address two issues:
- How can we use the Internet to help create a
better Sussex?
- How do we ensure new technology is designed
to meet local needs?
The event was organised by a partnership of the
Sussex Branch of the British
Computer Society to coincide with their 30th
anniversary, together with Sussex Rural Community
Council, Sussex
Community Internet Project, Brighton
University and Partnerships
Online.
Presentations from the day here.
The vision of these founding partners is:
- A learning network for anyone in Sussex
interested in how to use the Internet for
community benefit - information, communication,
collaboration.
- The tools to provide individuals and
organisations with appropriate facilities -
including a Sussex Community Server.
- Partnerships to bid for funds to develop the
network, systems, training and support.
These pages will be developed further following
event, but in the meantime you can read more about
the vision, project
ideas, the founding partners,
and how to join in. You
will also find links to others sites with more
resources about
community networking.
We also aim to establish this site - currently
hosted by Partnerships
Online - on an independent community server:
one of the projects.
